Welcome to Hearst Elementary!!! We are so excited to have you as part of our family. Whether you are a TK/Kinder family or a family with older children entering Hearst, WELCOME! Below please find some topics that will be of interest to you as you become part of our Hearst Community.

  • School-Wide Events: Fun Stuff! (To see the full calendar, go here)

    • Back to School Social August 25th: Great way to meet Hearst families and start off the school year! This is a *SUPER FUN* event and like all PTA events, it's free! Yummy Italian ice is provided to all attending Heart families (brought to you by Flavor Brigade).
    • Trunk or Treat October 20th: Our ode to Halloween! Families *donate* their car for decoration and hand out trinkets to Hearst families.
    • Disco Bingo January 26th: Yup, it's Disco and it's Bingo
    • International Fair April 27th: Our Hearst community invites everyone to experience their heritage
    • Field Day May 31st: Celebrate the end of the Year with fun and silly outdoor events/activities
  • Classroom Events: Room Parents
    • The Fun events that happen in your classroom, and the organization of classroom information is run with the cooperation of a Room Parent. This Room Parent works closely with the classroom teacher to make sure you receive all pertinent classroom information. Room Parents may be one or several in number and you can sign up to be a room parent at Back to School night on August 17th.
  • Fundraising & Donations: Hearst Elementary is an amazing school, but what sets it apart are the Hearst family donations that help our students get the very best in education

    • Fun Run 2017 -- September 29th: This is a family friendly Hearst event that also supports physical fitness! Funds support the purchase of technology (in-class learning tools like Chrome books) and support school
    • Hearst Auction -- March 10th: Our largest fundraiser of the year helps fund numerous Hearst programs, supports our teachers and classroom. This evening event is for Heart parents and it is A LOT OF FUN
  • Volunteer: The PTA does an amazing job making Hearst the special place it is, but IT IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS

    • Without your support, the events listed above will all go away. In addition, the funding provided by PTA run fundraisers, etc., will also go away
    • Volunteers must fill out a volunteer form to be cleared to be on campus. Volunteer forms are available at the front office
    • You don't need to spend a lot of time to make a difference. Any time you can donate is much appreciated and goes DIRECTLY BACK to your child. If you are interested in helping out, please email our PTA President Jen Flynn president@hearstpta.com or visit our Volunteer page to see what spots are available
  • Getting to School: Traffic and keeping Hearst families safe
    • Getting to Hearst in the morning can be a bit of a challenge as we all have busy schedules, multiple drop-offs and appointments. Please keep the following things in mind to keep all our Hearst families safe
      • OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT: enough said
      • DO NOT make U-Turns on Case Avenue: This is an *extremely dangerous* thing to do and you *will* get a ticket. If you need to make a U-Turn because you are late to school, it is better to be late than to cause an accident. Things happen in the morning (forgotten lunches, unset alarm clocks) so chalk it up to a bad morning and make the next day a better one!
      • Please stay in your appointed lane at drop-off and PULL FORWARD: There are two areas to drop off your children in the morning (if you are not walking them in), the back of the school at the rear gate and alongside or parallel to the school at the "red line". Please stay in your lane, drive slowly and do not cut other parents off. Everyone has to get somewhere and if we all work together we can accomplish it safely. Also, please do not drop off your child in the middle of the red line or at the crosswalks. PULL FORWARD.
      • No-Cell phone usage while at the pick up line
      • No Dogs/pets on campus
  • Miscellaneous
    • Absences: If your child is sick, please call the Hearst Attendance line and follow the instructions on the automated message 1 (925) 249-0238
    • Extended Absences: Arrangements must be made at the Front Office
    • Forgotten Lunches: Can be deposited at the front office in the black cabinet. Lunches can not be delivered directly to students
