The Other Team, a Destination Imagination team, from Amador and Foothill High Schools have partnered with The Crayon Initiative to collect old or used crayons for children in hospitals. This non-profit organization located in Danville recycles old crayons by melting them down into new ones and reshaping them. The new shape makes it easier for the kids to handle. These “new” crayons provide an outlet for their creativity and to temporarily escape the stress of hospitalization.

Every year, two million crayons are thrown out because they are broken or used. Since crayon wax is not biodegradable, the goal of The Crayon Initiative is to recycle and repurpose them.

Collection buckets are located in the main office if students and parents are interested in dropping off broken or old crayons.  The goal is to collect as many as possible by the end of the year.
